Lead Platform Engineer - Drive the future of cloud-native DevOps and AI developer tooling in Bankdata

About the role

As Lead Platform Engineer in the Decentral SCM & CI team, you will lead the development and maintenance of critical platforms supporting our developers, including source code management, CI/CD tools, AI assistants, AI agents, and more. You will be part of a close-knit, highly motivated team of five (one product owner and four developers) based in Aarhus, with most team members working remotely several days a week.

The team is known for its high degree of cooperation, flexibility, and trust, and you’ll play a key role in maintaining this culture of openness and collaboration. Your technical leadership will focus on creating innovative, cloud-native platforms that simplify complex development tasks, enabling our developers to be more productive and efficient.

You will drive the consolidation of future technologies, delivering cutting-edge solutions to enhance developer productivity. This includes commoditizing platform capabilities and packaging them in ways that make them accessible and easy to use for our development teams.

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of developer platforms at Bankdata, and to help position us as the premier enterprise for ambitious developers in Denmark.

Technologies you’ll work with include:

  • Git-based solutions (e.g., GitHub Enterprise, Bitbucket)

  • CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, Jenkins, Artifactory, GitHub Packages)

  • AI tools and platforms (e.g., GitHub CoPilot, Azure OpenAI)

  • Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, OpenTofu)

  • Configuration-as-Code (e.g., YAML, Helm, OPA)

You can read more about how Bankdata works with GitHub and GitHub CoPilot in our recent case study with GitHub and Microsoft.

The role will involve balancing working with the existing platforms, while consolidating around the new and curated platform capabilities we will be building together.

Primary responsibilities

  • Drive platform engineering: Drive and enforce the principles that ensure the team remains focused on building, managing and maintaining platforms that are always up and running.

  • Technical representation: Be the lead technical representative of the platforms and tools the team provides

  • Motivate and inspire: Be a thought leader that drives innovation within Bankdata and beyond

  • Curated platform capabilities: Lead the team in designing and building curated platform capabilities that our stream-aligned developer journey teams can package for our developers.

  • X as a service: Hide the complexity of running highly available highly scalable cloud-native platforms and tools.

  • Simplify and consolidate: Lead the journey of simplifying and consolidating around some of our future key platforms and tools, especially Github and Github CoPilot.

Success in this role

To succeed in this role we expect that within 6-12 months you will:

  • Build strong working relationships both within the team, with key stakeholder teams and with key teams around Bankdata, including parts of management and upper management.

  • Become intimately familiar with our existing platform and tooling offerings

  • Spearhead the journey of consolidating around fewer technologies

  • Lead the efforts on how to create a more curated platform experience for our developers.

  • Help foster a culture of rapid, yet controlled, experimentation.

About you

We are looking for an experienced platform engineer who excels at simplifying complexity and has a proven track record in this space. The applicant need not be a lead in their current position per say, but the candidate must, at least to an extent, be an innovator or thought leader within their prior organization or in the industry in general.

Technical skills: We expect you to have significant in-depth experience with DevOps tools and processes, preferably from a large-scale enterprise. This includes technologies like the ones mentioned above, but especially:

  • Git-based solutions (e.g., GitHub Enterprise, Bitbucket)

  • CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, Jenkins, Artifactory, GitHub Packages)

  • Some form of Configuration-as-Code (e.g., YAML, Helm, OPA) or Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, OpenTofu)

We also expect that you have a very strong development background and can produce high quality code. Some experience with AI and ML is a plus, but not a requirement.

Personal skills: We imagine you can recognize yourself in most of the following statements:

  • Open, flexible, and sociable, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and backgrounds.

  • Strong communicator who can express and stand by convictions, while remaining open to learning and adapting when necessary.

  • Motivated to inspire and lead by example, adapting to different personalities and driving others towards success.

  • Deep understanding of organizational goals, with the ability to translate strategic vision into actionable tasks, all while fostering a positive, productive environment for developers at Bankdata.

Experience: We imagine you have some, if not all, of the following relevant background and experience:

  • A strong practical background in IT, with significant software development experience.

  • A strong educational background, preferably M.Sc./PhD Computer Science, Engineering or similar.

  • Several years of high-performant experience working with developer tooling, DevOps or similar at a large-scale enterprise or high-impact startup.

Some experience working with or in highly regulated environments is a plus (e.g., financial IT)
